2013 Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible

If you’re going to build a flagship performance coupe, as Bentley has with the new Continental Speed GT, the natural next step is to take the top off. Hence, the introduction of the Continental GT Speed Convertible should come as no great surprise.

The big droptop will be officially unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in a couple of weeks, but Bentley’s released a round of photos and details ahead of schedule.

Some of it’s not hard to figure out, as the salient details are the same as those of the Continental Speed GT: 625-horsepower W12 engine with an eight-speed transmission, all-wheel drive with a performance-friendly rearward bias, 202-mph top speed and unique details including 21-inch wheels, blacked-out grille and “rifled” tail pipes. For Bentley, it’s all in a day’s work.

What sets it apart from the coupe is, of course, the four-layer ragtop. Solid enough to offer a serene ride at speed, the well-built top is designed for year-round comfort. When the top’s down, there’s a neck warmer to provide comfort in chilly weather.

Expect pricing information and more details in Detroit.
